Iced Chai Tea

iced chai

This is a recipe for chai tea; it is just something I threw together, not really in a specific cultural category. But it is delicious, refreshing, and nourishing.

Recipe:

3 Cups filtered water

2-3 tea black bags or 1 Tbs. loose black tea

1 Tbs. anise seeds or 1 anise star

1 Tbs. whole clove

4 cinnamon sticks

¼ inch fresh ginger, chopped

6 whole pepper corns

4 cardamom pods

Sweetener- Use according to taste, I use 2 tsp per cup. You can use honey, maple syrup, coconut sugar, or even organic cane sugar if you must. If you are using a liquid sweetener, add when tea has cooled to room temp. If using sugars, add while still hot so it will melt better.

Liquid-

½ Cup coconut milk or raw milk

OPTIONAL Flavors:

½ tsp. almond extract

2 tsp. vanilla extract

Instructions:

Bring 3 cups water to a boil, and then add the rest of the spices and low boil for 10 minutes, take off heat and let cool with spices in the water still, this is to enhance the healing/nourishing properties of the spices. When cooled, strain and add the liquids.

Serve over ice.
